Yuri Menel's story
I started work at Accor as a trainee 10 years ago, in the reception team. At first, I was shy with guests and was afraid if I will understand their needs and will be able to help them. But over the years I’ve improved my language and service skills. After a three months long internship, I was offered a permanent role as a receptionist and more recently, a shift leader.
What do I like the most about my job? It is speaking to guests now! I like to get to know them and their stories. However far or long they have travelled for, it is nice to have a small chat and make them feel welcomed. Job in the front desk has allowed me to improve my various language skills, – I am now a good user of Spanish and Portuguese, too.
The ten years with Accor have proven my love for hospitality because I love to be in constant contact with people, getting to know them and their culture, and to build a bridge between the guests and the hotel team.
Being a Heartist® means being helpful to a guest. There have been many occasions when guests approach us at reception and they can only speak their own language, but it is not an issue for me, I try to make everyone feel welcome. I am proud of what I do and what I have achieved when guests appreciate my help.
10 years with Accor has definitely given me the feeling of home. And home is where you can be yourself. I would suggest to anyone who is just joining hospitality, – always be yourself!
