Fiona Jabri's story

I discovered the world of hospitality by accident but I was immediately captivated. I love the human contact, the organisation and the way we work in a lively environment. I quickly realised this was the sector for me.

I started with a work-study program at the ibis Bercy, which meant I could learn as I worked. Then I had the chance to join the ibis Paris Coeur d’Orly in September 2019, and I am still there as a hotel manager. This role has allowed me to progress, to develop my skills and especially to create good relationships with my team and with clients.

I love people’s kindness at Accor, the team spirit and the compassion. I have always felt people care, especially during my pregnancy, when my colleagues were wonderful; they took over my tasks, they were solicitous, and this allowed me to sail through this period without any stress. We really are a family.

And above all, hospitality provides lovely experiences; to be able to look after other people makes me feel proud of my role every day. At ibis Paris Cœur d’Orly, I like to say to my clients, “Your journey starts here – not with palm trees, but with our team’s heartfelt smile”.

I would recommend hospitality to anyone because it is possible to learn a huge amount, as much for yourself as from others. There is always the opportunity to progress and develop, and there is the rich variety of the human race; you never get bored and each day is a new adventure. There are certainly difficulties but our team spirit allows us to conquer those together. Alone, we travel faster but together we travel further.

To be a Heartist® is to put your heart into everything you do; it is to welcome guests with generosity, to listen attentively and to act with passion. It is an attitude of mind and spirit that goes beyond a mere job, it is a way of being.

Without doubt, the care I received during my pregnancy will for ever remain in my memory – I was touched by the concern and support of my colleagues. Professionally, I am proud of some clients’ loyalty; to greet the same families every year, watch them evolve, see their children grow up and especially, notice how they feel at home when I welcome them for the second, third or even sixth year; that is affirmation of everything I do.

To newcomers, I say, be curious, open and committed; and learn from each experience, even the most difficult ones. And do not lose sight of the fact that in this profession, a smile and kindness make all the difference. Just follow your dreams!
