Anna Mida's Story
After studying hotel management, my experience in hospitality started in Ireland, where I had the opportunity to get experience and qualifications, first through a 3-month course at the CERT centre and then I took up an internship at a 4-star hotel in Waterford.
The work required perseverance and an inexhaustible supply of energy. I met many people from across the world and made friendships that have survived to this day. Despite being demanding, this work gave me a lot of satisfaction and confirmed my conviction that I want to follow this direction. What you feel and love in life very precious and I’m happy to be where I am and to do what I do.
My stay in Ireland also gave me a solid foundation for my future job and in 2006, I started my 15-year adventure with the Orbis Group, in which Accor held a stake, and I stayed there until March 2021.
It was a very intense time for me and the company allowed me to develop in a number of positions. I started my career as a receptionist in ibis, then became an operations manager in ibis and Novotel. During this period, I worked with many mature leaders. Each of them had a different management style, which allowed me to grow as a self-aware and responsible manager, and I have not stopped, I will develop further.
Hospitality has people at its centre, so creating a passion for hospitality is easy for those who like to be surrounded by people, are willing to work in an international environment and are focused on improving their skills. I’m open minded, optimistic and spontaneous and these characteristics help build relationships with people. Kindness matters to me; I want everyone in my hotel to feel at home and to take home memories and from their stay. My motto is Ralph Waldo Emerson’s, “Write in your heart that every day is the best day of the year”.
Hospitality cannot be learned, it is a passion for other people, taking care of their wellbeing, not just that of guests but also of our co-workers. This passion provides many opportunities to develop and to learn something new every day. If you are ready to take that challenge then welcome on board!
And to someone who is looking for a first job, if you have a strong empathy with people, a creative approach to life, you do not like the daily routine and you are an expert in handling difficult tasks, you will perfectly fit into this industry.
