Olivier Eyriac
Olivier Eyriac's story
Hospitality has been a complete career change to me. I come from the construction industry, where I worked as a carpenter on building sites in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region.
After a health issue, I decided to redirect my career into maintenance. I chose the hotel industry because I was looking for a new challenge in a field I wasn’t familiar with. I did my first internship at the Mercure Château Chartrons in Bordeaux, where I enjoyed the variety of the job and my day to day tasks. In early 2023, I moved to Novotel Bordeaux Lac.
Since I arrived, I’ve been working in all areas of hotel maintenance: electricity, plumbing, bedding, restrooms, meeting rooms, green spaces, the swimming pool, and so much more. My main job is to either handle maintenance as a prevention or correct an occurring issue. Some tasks are managed by my colleague and myself, while others are handled by our contractors and suppliers.
I get along well with everyone and I can adapt to the daily urgencies of a job where every day brings its share of surprises (a faucet to fix, a mirror to replace, a TV to program, heating to restart, etc.). I also appreciate tasks where I can add my “personal touch” to the place: decorating the restaurant, meeting rooms, or the lobby, as I did for the “October Pink” initiative.
I am proud of contributing to the success of the renovations of half of our rooms, where I had to show great versatility while working with our various service providers from different trades.
Why do I like working for Accor? I enjoy working for a French group that has a presence all around the world.
Hospitality is very dynamic world, operating 24/7, and it allows me to meet clients from all backgrounds, whether they are businesses, associations, or travellers. I would recommend this industry to anyone who enjoys working as part of a team, sharing ideas, and creating great experiences.
If you are new to the industry, I would say, – be curious and take an interest in the hotel’s current affairs. Who are its clients? What events are happening? What is its role in the neighborhood? Don’t be afraid to take initiative and propose ideas, no matter what is your role.
Working at Accor means being part of an adventure that can only succeed collectively, as the teams are highly dependent on each other.
