Ketevan Lekashvili's story
I started my carrier in hospitality in 2007 and it was a new challenge in my life. My first job was in a hotel in Bakuriani, Georgia, an attractive winter resort near Tbilisi. The government was beginning to develop the hospitality business and there were many opportunities to launch a new carrier. Tourism has much to offer in my country and I felt that this way, I could become a better person and have a more fulfilling life.
After a few years, I graduated from university in hospitality and this launched my second profession – in my forties!
Since 2019, I have been housekeeping manager in Ibis Tbilisi Stadium. I joined in the pre-opening period; there is nothing I don’t know about the hotels and I care about it like my own home.
Hospitality is all about teamwork and everyone works towards the same goals; we help each other in housekeeping.
I am happy that I chose this profession; every day at work is different – different guests, requests and situations.
Working in hospitality you meet clients from across the world and from a variety of backgrounds; it makes my work very interesting. You learn from them every day and this knowledge builds up over time.
Like any role, it has its ups and downs. The pay is not always great and not everyone you meet is as polite and friendly as they could be, but I feel proud when I help make someone’s experience or stay a memorable one and when the team gets good feedback from guests.
My job with Accor gives me many things. I am always meeting people, it is never boring, and it is gratifying to complete every task. I have the opportunity to travel and explore new destinations and these things all contribute to my satisfaction in being a Heartist® in an Accor hotel.
It is extremely rewarding to see how small things you do for visitors can make their stay special, and you have multiple resources to make it memorable and magical.
My advice to new starters: it is never too late to change profession and to do some good. You will make your customers’ day!
