Roberta D'Ascola's story
I decided to join the hospitality industry because a career in this field represents an ideal opportunity to develop abilities such as communication and listening skills or problem solving, which you will use throughout your career, wherever your path takes you.
Before joining the hotel industry I worked with my parents in our family bar and thanks to this first experience, I understood how much I liked to be in contact with people and how important dedication to your role was. But it was only when I took on my current position as a receptionist that I got to know new cultures and customs from all over the world.
I like the hospitality sector and Accor’s continuous approach to change and improvement both in the development of its workers and in the quality of its facilities and service.
To become a Heartist® is to have particular attention to every detail, be able to make the customer feel at home, and maybe persuade them to break into a smile with little attentions that really make a difference, and to make the guest feel at home. A Heartist® has the same duty to support his colleagues and collaborators so that we can convey true hospitality as an Accor family.
One of the best memories that has stayed with me is when a child asked me to show him how to make an origami. The next day he made me many small origamis shaped like frogs, with my name on it, and a message saying ‘Thank you Big Frog for teaching me’.
One piece of advice that I would give to a young guy such as myself, is always to believe in himself and your abilities. Even if the world of hospitality can seem very complicated at first, the small satisfactions you feel daily make it absolutely worth it.
