Taïmen Kerly
Taïmen Kerly's story
I saw an advertisement for my current job on LinkedIn and that inspired me to go into hospitality. Novotel Bordeaux Lac was involved in many aspects of sport that were related to clients such as athletics, sports bodies or brands, and through the local stadium, which hosted large events. I had become interested in these things throughout my education, so to find a segment of hospitality that engaged with them was very appealing.
I am responsible to corporate clients for rooms, meeting rooms, the bar, restaurant and terrace, not just in sport but in all sectors, and I respond to tender documents. Once we have signed a contract – after fierce negotiations! – I put on my organising hat and become architect of the event; I coordinate our teams and external suppliers. And once the day is over, I calculate what has been sold in order to invoice the client.
I love the variety in my job; there is always something happening in the hotel, morning, noon and night – there is never a dull moment. I like the fact that Accor is French and is made up of well established brands that appeal to all budgets and backgrounds; we are a diverse business.
My proudest moment was when we signed a contract with the Australian track cycling team for the Olympic and Paralympic Games; they will be based here during August and it will be like being part of their crew for this exciting occasion.
A Heartist® is able to adapt to any number of situations, no matter how difficult, and will resolve a problem, rather than putting it aside; we will inspire our team to satisfy clients.
When you are new in hospitality, it is important to accept that you do not know everything, but you can always direct a client or a colleague towards the right answer by keeping abreast of competitors’ activities, market trends and services provided by other properties.
